Network: DC STEM Network

Purpose: The Communications and Outreach Plan is the culmination of planning meetings that led to concrete target audiences, the best way to reach those target audiences (indicators), how to implement those strategies (interventions), and how to evaluate it (evaluation measures). The Communications and outreach Plan is aligned to the DC STEM Network’s strategic plan, and serves as the framework for increasing awareness of the Network’s resources and programs.

Usage: The plan outlines specific strategies implemented by the DC STEM Network during the launch phase. This phase included the #stemreadydc campaign to increase awareness of STEM learning opportunities in DC, the launch of the website, and the outreach campaign (via presentations and prospective partner meetings).

Impacts: The plan has led to an increase in views of the DC STEM Network’s webpage and digital media. Since Aug 2015 (Aug ’15-Apr ’16), we have had approximately 10,000 users view the website for 14,000 sessions with 34,500 pageviews. From Aug-Dec 2015, we had approximately 2,600 users view the website for 4,000 sessions with 11,000 pageviews. The Network received more than 450 subscriptions to the e-newsletter, with a 28% open rate and 6% click rate. During this time period, the Network launched a Twitter account and gained more than 580 followers and 350 likes through 900 tweets. Additionally, the Network developed 200 local and national partnerships with educators, education leaders, out-of-school time providers, policy makers, local and national government agencies, and parent-serving organizations.

Prior research or grounding: The plan is grounded in a theory of change model (see www.TheoryofChange.org for details).
